Exercise Designer +

Creating a custom Exercise
To create an Exercise go to the 'Exercises' list. At the bottom, click 'Add Exercise' which will open the Exercise Designer with a new blank Exercise.

Editing an Exercise
To edit an Exercise, go to the 'Exercises' list and click on the pencil icon to open the Exercise Designer. This will load your existing Exercise details, which you can change and save. This will NOT automatically update this Exercise in existing Workouts but will reflect changes when added to Workouts going forward.

Details
Designing an exercise can have as much or as little detail as you want

  • Title
No matter your exercise it probably has a name, call it whatever you like.

  • Description
Add a short summary or key instructions for performing this exercise. This helps clarify form or purpose.

  • Default Set
Configure the default set and rep structure for this exercise. You can add default weights. This template will load each time you add it to a workout but can be changed when added to a Workout without affecting the Exercise Default Set.

  • Target Muscles
Select the main muscle groups that this exercise works. You can choose multiple if it targets several areas. This helps with organising workouts.

  • Difficulty
Choose the general difficulty level for this exercise — Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. Optional but useful for filtering.

  • Equipment
List any equipment required for this exercise (e.g., dumbbells, resistance bands, barbell). Leave empty for bodyweight exercises.

Exercise Insights and Analysis +

As you complete workouts that include an exercise, you will gain insights on trends and deeper data analysis. See Analysis for details.

Why do I need to create Exercises? +

Exercises allow you to reuse them across multiple Workouts. As you perform exercises, Alero tracks your performance over time so you can view insights and trends.

How do Exercise Trends work? +

Exercise trends help you understand how your performance changes over time, based on completed workouts rather than a single session.

Time period:
Trends are calculated using all workouts from the last 50 days. At least two completed sessions are required before a trend appears.

What is Volume?
Volume represents the total amount of work performed for an exercise during a workout.

Weighted exercises:
Volume = reps × weight for each completed set, summed across the workout.

Bodyweight exercises:
Volume is calculated using reps only, since no external weight is used.

Best Set:
For each workout, Alero identifies your best completed set. For weighted exercises, this is the heaviest set completed (or the highest reps at the same weight). This is used to calculate weight and rep trends.

How trends are calculated:
Each workout contributes one data point. Alero looks at how these data points change over time and calculates an overall trend direction across all sessions.

What do the arrows mean?

  • ↑ Up – overall improvement
  • → Stable – little or inconsistent change
  • ↓ Down – overall decrease

What do the percentages represent?
The percentage shows the total change from the start to the end of the period, relative to your average performance. It reflects long-term trends, not individual workouts.

Small changes are shown as stable to avoid overreacting to normal day-to-day variation.

Deleting an Exercise +

You can delete an exercise from the Exercise list. Deleting the exercise will remove it from your exercises collection meaning you will no longer be able to add to add to exercises and track information. However, if this exercise is in an existing workout won't be deleted from it.
